Understanding the Zermatt Car-Free Zone — What Happens at Täsch?

Zermatt bans private motor vehicles to preserve air quality and its Alpine character. The entry point for road traffic is Täsch, 5 km from the resort. At Täsch, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn shuttle train runs every 20 minutes and takes 8 minutes to reach Zermatt village.

Your driver will park at the Täsch car park and assist you with luggage to the train platform. The shuttle to Zermatt is included in most ski passes — or available for a small fare. This short train leg is a pleasant introduction to the car-free world you are about to enter. More about the Zermatt shuttle at Zermatt.swiss.

How Does the Airport Pickup Work?

Your driver meets you at the arrivals hall at ZRH (Terminal 1 or 2) holding a name board. Your flight is tracked from takeoff — so even if it lands ahead of schedule, your driver is ready.

  1. Arrive at ZRH, collect luggage
  2. Find your driver at arrivals — name board with your name
  3. Load ski equipment and luggage
  4. Drive directly to Täsch via the A9/Rhone valley route
  5. Driver assists at Täsch with luggage to the shuttle platform
